Wherever I produce “art events,” that is an art space.
An artist is not an “enlightener,” nor does an artist have any special skills or knowledge. An artist simply asks “why” with their sensations. Art exhibits are just temporary spaces for using our sensation to ask “why” and to invite the audience to ask “why” with us. Only when there is a dialogue of asking “why” between artist and audience can an “artistic event” truly occur.
Chen Chieh-jen, Artist
This exhibit will showcase artist-in-residence Chen Chieh-jen’s fieldwork-oriented process, guiding philosophy and core concepts behind his artistic production. Visitors can come to this space to read, imagine, think, and ask questions. We hope that visitors will take their experience beyond the gallery space out into the world, serving as a starting point for future “art events.”
